The primary goal of the Governance Council is to work towards understanding of the Montessori Method of Education and to ensure that the school’s functioning aligns to the school’s vision, mission, and core values; and that the school operates in compliance with all state, federal, and local legal obligations.
The Governance Council will be responsible for the establishment and monitoring of the strategic plan, fundraising efforts, and advising some of the school’s policies. When the Governance Council develops policy and/or makes procedural changes, policies will be submitted to the IMAP Board for final approval based on fidelity to AMI Montessori principles. Additionally, the Governance Council supports and promotes the school through involvement and guidance in student recruitment, fundraising and capital campaigns, fostering partnerships within the community, and coordinating school events.
Members of the Governance Council include the IMAP Principal, Non-Voting Head of School, community members, staff members/educators, and learner representatives. Council Members are elected by popular vote and serve three-year terms. Notices of Governance Council Elections are shared via email to current families, educators, and learners.
